Injection Molding
1) Drying Recommendations
A small amount of water absorbed might cause hydrolysis, leading to problems such as low performance, voids and silver streaks. Recommended drying condition is as follows:
・Hot air temperature:
・Chest type hot air dryer
Pellets should be loaded less than 3cm in thickness. Use of a hopper dryer is recommended. If not possible, the dried compound should be molded within 30 minutes after loading the feed hopper of the injection molding machine.
Hopper dryer
The compound should stay more than 6 hours in the dryer. The size of the dryer should be selected accordingly.
2) Injection Molding Machine
The recommended capacity of an injection molding machine is 150 to 300% of the mold. An open nozzle with temperature control will allow injection molding without issues. Abrasion of screw and cylinder should be monitored carefully in case of molding reinforced compounds.
3) Melt Temperature
4) Mold Temperature
5) Screw Speed
6) Ram Speed
7) Injection Pressure
8) Back Pressure
9) Settings for Injection Molding
An open loop type" and "closed loop type" injection molding machine might give different results even
with the same settings. Differences between set cylinder temperature and melt temperature and
differences between calculated and real injection rate should be noted.
10) Recycling
For standard molding purposes recycled material up to 20% could be mixed. Degradation in performance
and appearance should be taken into account. However, typical notes are as follows:
・Performance test after more than 5 times recycling is necessary.
・Products showing silver streaks and burn marks are not to be used for recycled material.
・Products obtained shortly after spraying release agents are not to be used.
・Stop recycling in case of observed decrease in molding pressure or the appearance of finsflash.
